Grander Together

For two intellectual individuals, Justyn Lim and Lee Chia Khuan, pursuing their master’s degree was a milestone they shared. Just recently, they added another thing in common—choosing the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur to host the beginning of many more grand a

Justyn Lim graduated with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, and Lee Chia Khuan graduated with a master’s degree in civil engineering. They had both met at The University of Manchester in the UK, and both are in their respective family businesses. With so many commonalities, it was unsurprising that their friendship, which formed while in university, gradually blossomed into a romance during their final year of studies.

The proposal took place on September 30, 2016 (Chia Khuan’s birthday; which was made even more memorable!) “I planned it this way so that she would think that it was a birthday getaway to a nice resort, which turned out to be a surprise proposal, done in a well-decorated room. When we entered the room, she was shocked by the decorations and when she turned back to me, I was on bended knee with a ring in my hand,” said Justyn. “She told me it was cheesy but she liked it that way—simple and private. We decided to host the wedding reception a year from then, on her birthday again (September 30, 2017) which coincidentally happened to fall on a Saturday.”

Shortly after the proposal, the first thing the couple did was to look for hotel venues around KL—they understood that it was of paramount importance to book a nice, grand hotel as soon as possible for their

desired date, as hotels usually get booked way in advance for weddings. “The Grand Hyatt was one of our initial choices, mainly because of the size of the grand ballroom, which could accommodate the 400 guests that we had,” said Justyn. “Plus, we felt that the oval-shaped design of the hall would be comfortable for all our guests to be closer together and near to the stage during the dinner.”

For every couple, there needs to be an ‘aha’ moment, which would then help them with their decision to choose a venue. For the now Mr and Mrs Justyn Lim, it was something striking and stunning that the hotel had—the beautiful and exquisite crystal ceiling—which instantly won the couple over during their visit. They could then envision how lovely their wedding would be in the grand ballroom. And it was a gorgeous event indeed, as seen through the spectacular snapshots they shared.

That aside, the couple did have something else to reveal about their wedding at the Grand Hyatt nearly a year ago. Justyn divulged, “After all the planning and arrangements, everything came together perfectly, as we had hoped. The design of the grand ballroom along with the glorious arrangement of flowers, decorations and coloured lighting that complemented the crystal ceiling made the entire affair perfect for us.”

He then added, “Words could not express how impressed we were when we first entered the ballroom, and we were elated to see the end result, which exceeded our expectations. The quality of food served and hotel service on that night were excellent as well. The Grand Hyatt team even went the extra mile and presented a surprise cake including flowers for my wife during the dinner, because it was also her birthday. The only regret that we had was that we were not in the hall longer, to enjoy all the details that we had put together. Overall, our guests had an amazing night too, and that truly meant the world to us.”
