Malaysia Tatler Wedding

Dearest Zaida,

-

Honestly, I don’t know where to start when writing a letter of this type. Sorry if it sounds formal—I’m in the office at the moment.

Today, like any other day, I got up at 6.45AM to pack Adam off to school and in my mind I’ve got my day planned out, including some time for me to finish off this little letter. Happy does not begin to describe what I feel. Through sleepy eyes, I see you, wife, mother, entrepreneur, planning out your day with the same zest you put into planning our wedding.

Planning a proposal was a walk in the park compared to the wedding planning. I recall how anxious I was, planning the proposal. I’d taken the day off, but told you I was at work while I went off making sure the arrangements and reservations were in place. I still can’t figure out what tipped you off, but you knew I was up to something when you called me and joked that you knew I wasn’t at work. My first and only lie followed. I had the ring with me at all times because I was afraid I would lose it. That night, when I got down on one knee and you said “Yes”, that was as good as an “I do”.

Looking back over the past one year eight months and four days, it hits me that time has gone by so fast. We’ve learned so much more about each other since getting married. Before that, daily (hourly perhaps?) conversations via phone, WhatsApp messages, dates, saying goodnight in the car before going home, are some of the treasures that made me want to have you in my life. I cherish those moments and I look forward eagerly to creating new chapters in life with you.

Today, and each and every day after, will be the most beautiful of days, because you love me. You are a gift and my life is so much better because I get to call you my wife. Thank you for loving me the way you do. Your husband, Arif Zikri Azizi
