For Amira Geneid and Cameron Priest, taking the big step together as a couple is a journey filled with emotion, humour and love

At a housewarming party a few years ago, Cameron Priest and Amira Geneid were introduced by a mutual friend. Cameron subsequently dropped a bomb on Amira. “He got really serious and mentioned something about seeing a future for us together. This scared me away so I refused to give him my number,” laughs the blushing bride in recollection of how they first met. A few months later, Cameron popped up on her Facebook as a potential friend. Despite the ‘scary’ episode, Amira added him to her friend list. Cameron made his move again—more discreetly this time—by chatting her up on Facebook messenger and then inviting her over to have coffee with him. “When I was sure he wasn’t crazy, I agreed,” grins the second youngest daughter of Dato’ Robert Geneid and Datuk Raziah Mahmud-geneid. The awkwardness from their first encounter stayed with him so he only proposed after he was sure the time was right. He actually had the ring picked out months before popping the question. When they flew back to New Zealand to visit Cameron’s family, he found the opportunity to do so. “He asked me to marry him on the top of a dormant volcano in his hometown. I had on baggy gym wear and was sweating profusely—which is not how I imagined I’d look like when I got proposed to,” says Amira about the proposal. Then it took a few days for the revelation that she was engaged to sink in. When it did, she began throwing herself into the task of planning the series of events that will mark the beginning of their journey down the aisle.
