STEPS OF PÂTE DE VERRE

-

The liuli pâte-de-verre technique is a complex twelve-step process. Each step must be performed without error to prevent breakage, irregular air pockets or impurities

STEP 1

Designing and creating an initial model in clay

STEP 2

Coating clay sculpture in silicone to produce a negative mould

STEP 3

Filling negative mould with wax

STEP 4

Removing the mould to reveal a positive wax form once the wax is solidified

STEP 5

Refining the wax sculpture

STEP 6

Coating the wax sculpture in fire-resistant plaster to produce a plaster mould

STEP 7

Removing embedded wax through a high-heat steaming process to create a negative mould

STEP 8

Placing liuli ingredients in the plaster mould followed by a firing process

STEP 9

Re-firing in kiln

STEP 10

Removing the plaster mould

STEP 11

Die-cutting, refining and polishing the crystal
