ARABELLA PRESTON
Recently in town to launch Votary, a British-made line of natural all-botanical skincare products she co-founded, the former beauty editor talks about why going green is the secret to radiant skin
What inspired the Votary line?
I believe pure, natural plant oils are the best way to achieve healthy and luminous skin. They have an affinity with your skin; it keeps you looking young. I use an oil to cleanse and oil to moisturise— no creams!
What skincare products can’t you live without?
“I DON’T BELIEVE THE ENVIRONMENT OR ANY CREATURE SHOULD SUFFER UNNECESSARILY FOR THE SAKE OF A BEAUTY PRODUCT”
Votary’s Rose Geranium and Apricot Cleansing Oil is my desert island product. It suits all skin types and makes a fantastic make-up remover too. The Pillow Spray calms my mind at night, which means I wake up feeling well-rested and looking my best.
Best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
Never use foaming products on your skin. It’s completely transforming when you stop stripping your skin with harsh products.
What is your beauty philosophy?
Never ever dry your skin out. Always keep it protected and hydrated but not overloaded.
Where do you find inspiration?
My garden. I live in the English countryside and am passionate about my orchard, plants and herb garden. I’m also a fan of Carole Bamford for her pivotal work in promoting organic farming and sustainability.
Whoareyour beautyicons?
Cate Blanchett, and Leslie Caron in the film Gigi.
