Take Care, Men
Samantha Lim Kathlyn D’souza
November is a month busy with movements, such as NoShave November and Movember. Here at Malaysia Tatler, we pitched a different take on these campaigns by speaking to four men—urologist Dr George Lee, Benefit Cosmetics general manager Matthew Lim, CEO of Livescape Group Iqbal Ameer and founder of Riuh! Affendy Ali—all with different stages of facial hair growth (since we asked to them to leave it alone for a bit before we met at JW Marriott’s Truefitt & Hill), as we spoke to them about health issues, specifically men’s health. Men aren’t typically portrayed as the type to ‘pamper’ themselves, or put a lot of emphasis on their looks. They are known in the periphery as the type to maintain a laissez-faire attitude when it comes to not only looks, but also their health. So here, we aim to challenge that notion by bringing together these gentlemen, to have a chat about general appearances, grooming and their idea of having ‘me’ time (although options are indeed limited). As we spoke to them about how they feel on the outside, the conversation steered towards the most important of conversations to be had—how they feel on the inside, what measures they take to be healthy, plus their tips and advice for other men out there. Let it be known to others that men’s health shouldn’t be only be highlighted during a specific time of the year, but always, as these men have stated.
