The Invitation
CHRISTOPHER TAN AND MELISSA LIM WEDDING CELEBRATION
Christopher Tan and Melissa Lim’s lush and lavish reception saw a host of familiar faces in attendance; having fun while they celebrated the coming together of the lovebirds
Being a free spirit with an equal right- and left-brain balance, lawyer-cum-marketer Melissa Lim knew that her Mr Right should also be a funny man. This quality was what drew her to Christopher Tan, whose sense of humour and humbleness appealed to her when they first met in 2009 through mutual friends.
“We did not meet again until 2012, when we suddenly bumped into each other on a chance encounter,” recaps Christopher in his trademark jovial manner. Captivated by her, he employed a smart tactic to see her again.
“During our second encounter, he ‘accidentally’ left behind an important document with his contact number before he went off—then he ‘challenged’ me to return it to him within 24 hours over brunch or coffee,” shares Melissa, who was so
amused by the whole situation that she made plans to see him the very next day.
After six years of dating, Christopher proposed while they were holidaying in Europe. To Melissa’s surprise, he rolled out all the romantic gestures in one go—choosing Rome as the place to propose and hiring a violinist to serenade them before he finally popped the question. “It was a simple affair, but so sweet because he was so earnest,” she says fondly.
On the big day, the couple hosted an intimate cocktail and dinner reception inspired by a romantic, indoor garden. Guests snapped pictures at the beautiful floral backdrop in the cocktail foyer of Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, before the party adjourned to the ballroom. All heads turned when the glowing newlyweds made their bridal entrance, beaming with huge smiles.
As the evening went on, Christopher and Melissa took to the floor, slow-dancing amid the picturesque backdrop for the first time as husband and wife. The lucky bride was in for a sweet surprise, when her dashing groom went to the stage and serenaded her with Adele’s Make You Feel My Love.
