This 21-year-old student sees beyond what an average youngster would— the importance of empowering youth with the right set of skills for better governance in the future

Describing himself as determined, confident and optimistic, this humble student juggles between being a Model United Nations delegate, a Khazanah Nasional Scholar, a debater and writer. With his fiery spirit to empower the local youth, he also founded the youth organisation, The Hubb Movement to support other young fledglings in nation-building activities. This 2018 Perdana fellow reveals five things that keep him inspired.

1 TUNKU: HIS LIFE AND TIMES

This book by author Mubin Sheppard published in 1995 tells the story of the founder of our nation and his aspiration for Malaysia. Tunku dreamed of Malaya as a place where people live happily in harmony and peace. His message and the Merdeka spirit that founded Malaya should not be forgotten and I think our generation should continue to champion his vision for Malaysia.

2 THE CITY OF A HUNDRED SPIRES

This phenomenal eastern European city completely stole my heart and I have fallen in love with it. Prague, the historical capital of Bohemia entails romanticism and love. I made a wish a year ago at one of the most beautiful bridges in Europe, Charles Bridge, and my wish actually came true this year! It is a city that taught me the meaning of love.

3 NOSTALGIC VINYLS

I may be young and energetic, but believe it or not, I am not a Spotifysavvy millennial. I do need some time off to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city and I find playing vinyl music truly an enjoyable experience, especially those by The Carpenters, Celine Dion and Teresa Teng.

4 READING

I believe reading is a really good way to expand your horizons and build up your understanding of the world. It helps us comprehend the world around us, and the skills or experience to learn from past generations. If I were to recommend one mentor or role model, I would strongly recommend you to marry yourself to the habit of reading.

5 MY MOTHER

She never succumbed to challenges and hardship, even when she was battling breast cancer. She taught me the value of perseverance, love and determination. She is my role model and her spirit will always be my source of motivation.
