Innovate is how they operate. Just like when it comes to the family businesses entrusted to them, our five cover story personalities stepped out of their comfort zones to take their individual starring turns before the camera
Even before the doors to Colony Star Boulevard opened at 9am, Melissa Sin had arrived bright and early at 8.30am. We were even more shocked when she divulged that she was hospitalised the day before for a terrible bout of coughing; she had requested for special release from the doctor to come to our shoot. “Anything for Malaysia Tatler—i already made a promise,” says the executive director of SKB Shutters, as our makeup team started prepping her face with a range of Giorgio Armani Beauty products.
Next to arrive was Getha’s Melissa Tan, who generously brought nasi lemak for breakfast for all of us to eat. The two girls (who have mutual friends in common) started bonding during hair and makeup. They eventually welcomed our third talent, Natalie Cheng from Parkson Group, into their little circle when the latter arrived. They would occasionally take breaks from the grooming chair to take pictures of the exquisite Tiffany & Co jewellery that they will wear for the shoot, such as the stunning Meduse clip by Jean Schlumberger, which cost almost a million ringgit.
When Garvy Beh, CEO of Doctor2u, arrived, he hopped in the grooming chair and got done in 10 minutes. “Sorry, girls,” he said with a teasing laugh he left the trio to start his video shoot first. Our final talent, Jim Tan of T7 Global arrived with stacks of documents to review while being groomed. He explained that the fast-paced nature of working at a listed company requires him to work anywhere and everywhere.
It took a little while for everyone gathered to warm up to each other during the group shot, but the ice was broken when Jim’s wife Enya Chen stopped by with their son, Evan. By the time the shoot ended, these five young people have forged a new friendship with each other and were sharing tips in fitness, shopping and even business contacts. Melissa Sin wrapped things up in a high note by snapping Polaroid pictures with her new friends, thus giving them each a memento to cherish the day.
