The JOURNEY of a JEWEL
JUST HOW FAR HAS YOUR TIFFANY & CO DIAMOND TRAVELLED TO GET TO YOU?
1 Your diamond makes its first appearance as a rough in a mine in Russia, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa or Canada—countries that Tiffany & Co buys its gems from, guided by high standards of ethical sourcing. 2 Your rough then travels to the brand’s facility in Antwerp, Belgium, where it is put through no less than four tests to confirm its eligibility to be a Tiffany diamond. Assuming it passes all the tests, the rough then gets marked, meaning an industry professional would determine the ideal cut for it. 3 Depending on the size of the rough, smaller stones get flown to the diamondpolishing facility in Vietnam or Cambodia, while larger ones go to Mauritius or Botswana. At these facilities, your diamond gets polished into that final sparkling gemstone. 4 All polished diamonds then get transferred to the Tiffany Gemological Laboratory in Vietnam or Pelham, New York for grading. This is where the final colour and clarity grading takes place. 5 The graded diamonds are then transported to Pelham before being shipped to Tiffany’s facilities in New York, Rhode Island and Kentucky for the final design and craftsmanship completion, including setting. Once the piece of jewellery is up to Tiffany’s satisfaction, it is placed in the coveted blue box and flown to the boutique in your country, ready to go home with you.
