25 years on, Dr Norella remains the longestserving member at the MAA Medicare Charity Foundation. Tasked as medical advisor and visiting nephrologist since the opening of their first haemodialysis centre in 1994, she was later appointed to their board of trustees. She champions singleuse of dialysis, which provides newer, better waste removal from the patient’s bloodstream with haemodia-filtration in selected patients; the setting up of Patients’ Welfare Fund for subsidising vascular access surgery; obligatory three-monthly blood tests, special highly expensive medications for improving anaemia, among others; van transportation services and the Kids@medicare Education Fund.
