Montblanc is frequently inspired by hulking glaciers and glittering lakes. For the burly 1858 Geosphere Limited Edition 1858, however, the watchmaker has abandoned its usual alpine inspiration in favour of the dusty desert. Limited to (yes, you guessed it) 1858 pieces, this watch boasts a sandy-beige fumé dial and case back illustration of the Gobi Desert’s Flaming Cliffs, which pays tribute to Montblanc ambassador Reinhold Messner’s solo trek across northern China and southern Mongolia in 2004. In just five weeks, the mountaineer travelled more than 1,900 kms.

THE RIGHT STUFF
The sleek black watch is perhaps the sportiestlooking version of the iconic Three Bridges that first appeared in a pocket watch in the 19th century. For this new collaboration with the British automaker Aston Martin, famed for being the choice of James Bond, Girard-perregaux has chosen to craft the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges Aston Martin Edition with a 44mm titanium case, the same material used to make the bridges. The bridges hold the movement in position—note the barrel at 12 o’clock and the lyre-shaped tourbillon cage at 6 o’clock—making them appear as if they are hovering in the air. And just to make it extra special, it comes with a black calf leather strap with a rubber alloy injected with white gold. This is the first time such a fancy material has appeared on a watch.
