The latest automobiles that do not compromise on style and comfort
What’s happening in the world of automobiles
DYNAMIC DRIVING POWER
Launched in Malaysia early this year, the new XC40 Recharge T5 has solidified Volvo’s status as the first automaker in the country to offer a full plug-in hybrid electric vehicle range assembled locally. The SUV’S twin engine setup offers a more sustainable drive with carbon emissions of just 50 grams per kilometre, without compromising on performance and style. With the addition of safety features such as the Pilot Assist system, Cross Traffic alert with brake support and City Safety and Run-off Road protection and mitigation, the XC40 Recharge T5 promises a more dynamic driving experience with five different driving modes: Hybrid, Pure, Off-road, Power and Individual.
BRUTISH CHARM
The largest and most luxurious SUV from Mercedes-benz yet, the new GLS combines luxury and comfort with the rustic character of an off-roader. Powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with 48-volt technology, the GLS 450 4MATIC AMG line comes with an enhanced Airmatic air suspension system that adapts to road conditions in real time while keeping the car at the same level regardless of the load on board.
THE SUV OF DUALITY
Not only has Maserati gotten on board with electrification, it has embraced it. The Levante Hybrid picks up from the Ghibli Hybrid, marking the brand’s continuous bold steps towards the future. This latest evolution in the SUV is lighter than its corresponding petrol version, making it faster, greener, and of course, more iconic. From balancing performance with reduced consumption, the Levante Hybrid is an SUV built of contrasts—fusing incredible performance with minimal environmental impact. In a nod towards towards electrification, bold blue cobalt illuminate details of the SUV, from its logo to the side air intakes, the brake calipers, and spills over into the interior’s embroidered stitch work.
WORK OF ART ON WHEELS
Most 80s boys (and men) who were into cars would undoubtedly have a poster of the Lamborghini Countach plastered over their bedroom wall. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Countach’s distinctively contemporary and beautiful lines make it a stunning looker, elevating this work of art to an automotive icon. Even the shape and design of today’s Lamborghini models, including the Aventador, Huracán, Sián and the Urus takes its cues from the Countach. The low and wide front view of the Countach is characterised by diagonal lines on the hood, which are repeated on the rear engine compartment. Added to this are the low and squared passenger compartment, the typical slope of the windscreen and the characteristic cut of the side windows, which make a Lamborghini easily identifiable at first glance, and have remained unchanged over the years.
BRIDGING LUXURY AUTOMOTIVE AND THE ARCHITECTURAL WORLDS
Rolls-royce Motor Cars and renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma joined forces to unveil a first-of-its-kind Bespoke Rolls-royce Dawn, envisioned as a moving representation of the new luxury residence ‘The Kita’ in central Tokyo. Kengo Kuma is famed for the design of the reborn Japan National Stadium. Created for exclusive use of the owner of the unique multi-level penthouse, ‘The Kita Tea House’ which sits atop the newly completed property, the Bespoke Dawn features a host of styling cues that reflects the residence’s clarity of structure and prevailing sense of calm. From its Silver Haze exterior colour that reflects the building’s core structural materials, to the rich interior Royal Walnut panelling that is a nod to the walnut panelling of the penthouse entrance lobby—such details make this car truly exclusive.
