IDW Design & Build show how they create beautiful spaces while improving their clients’ lives through design

-

For founders of IDW Design & Build, IDR Lokman Hakim Ahmad Subki and IDR Rabiatul Adawiyah Rasol, design is not just a career, it’s their life mission. Since they started IDW Design & Build in 2007, they have garnered awards and built a reputation for not just creating beautiful interior spaces but also providing design solutions for their clients’ living spaces. From living rooms to outdoor areas, they share their best examples of achieving their design intentions with aplomb.

LIVING ROOM

Located in Brunei, this project was for a successful couple who run their own business and wanted to update their house in a modern classic style. The main challenge of the project was relocating the space planning within the main structure of the house so that it would have an impressive entrance foyer and formal living area. To make a grand impression, the designers added a double volume chandelier. The wall wainscoting and ceiling carving details imbue a classic touch but the bold pops of colour add vibrancy. Burnt red and blue were balanced with a beige palette, which happens to be the family’s favourite colour. Geometrical rugs anchor the space and create a warm vibe for the whole area. These design gestures combine for a living room which the couple are proud to entertain in as it creates an unforgettable impression on guests and business associates.

KITCHEN

Set in an affluent area of Ampang, a couple wanted to have a kitchen which was not just functional, they wanted it to serve as a comfortable area for the family to bond over. To this end, the designers created a double volume dining area with a beautiful view. A soothing shade of ocean blue was used as the accent colour to evoke the serenity of deep diving and clear blue waters. This wise choice of colour and addition of thoughtful details have provided a kitchen which the family enjoy spending time in—even when it’s not over meals.

BEDROOM

A magnificent bungalow in Kajang was bought as a gift from a husband for his beloved wife. The couple

wanted a home that felt modern and luxurious with gold accents as it represents luxury to them. For the bedroom, the designers wanted to cater to the couple’s aesthetics while maintaining a modern tastefulness so a balance of gold and muted colours was used. Splashes of gold were incorporated in the bed panel and since this was a sanctuary for the couple, masculine and feminine touches were conveyed in an elegant way. Such attention to detail has resulted in a splendid bedroom that the couple look forward to spending time in at the end of the day.

BATHROOM

Located in Kelantan, the owner wanted his bathroom to have an Asian Fusion feel akin to lavish bathrooms found in luxury resorts. Before planning the space, the designers closely followed the client’s daily routine to best design the space for his needs. The bathroom was separated into dry and wet areas to maximise the space. A welcoming feel was created with a well-curated mix of white marble, rattan furniture and wall panels with Asian motifs. The completed space now has a wow factor that rivals 5-star resorts. It’s also an oasis of calm where the owners let the stresses and strains of the day literally drain away.

OUTDOOR SPACE

For this Ampang bungalow, the client wanted to embrace indooroutdoor living but in comfort. They also wanted an attractive backdrop they could use as a location for their social media posts, which is part of their business activities. To cater to this, a water fountain and a bench swing were installed. These were placed to face the terrace garden and covered with a glass ceiling so it could be used even on rainy days. Since this is a place for quiet contemplation, the colour palette was mainly white. These elements have created an outdoor space that fulfils the clients’ requirements while adding an extra dimension to their daily lives.
