A Top Tier Education Institution in Asia
During the pandemic, Marlborough College Malaysia demonstrated why it is considered one of the best in education
Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM) is one of the leading British educational institutions in the world known for its academic excellence, unrivalled range of co-curricular activities and exceptional pastoral care. Despite the interruption to education on the whole during the pandemic, MCM demonstrated a commitment to providing a holistic education while keeping its students and families safe.
Its efforts have brought in more accolades for the multiple award-winning school, with the most recent being the Strategic Leadership Award presented annually by ISC Research, for exceptional practice across a range of activities in schools globally. MCM is also one of the top 15 schools in Asia and the top 100 schools globally by the prestigious Spear’s Schools Index, which lists the best private schools in the world. This is a proud achievement for MCM, which is only one of two schools in Malaysia to make the top 15. MCM also made it to the top 75 highest scoring schools in 2020 that offer IB globally, placing it in the top 2 per cent of IB schools in the world.
Known as a top boarding school in addition to a day school, MCM won the 2021 Boarding Innovation Award by the Boarding Schools’ Association for its outstanding examples of innovation to deliver better boarding. The award was in recognition of the school’s Barton Farm, an organic, sustainable farm which allowed students the experience of growing produce and enjoying the harvest during meals. MCM was also highly commended for both the association’s Wellbeing & Mental Health Initiative Award and the Boarding Research Award for its application of positive psychology throughout the school, an initiative in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania.
Set on 90 acres, close to the Straits of Johor and surrounded by exceptional natural beauty, MCM includes the full spectrum of purpose-built facilities that enable students to conduct varied extracurricular activities, thus providing plenty of opportunites to discover interests and cultivate natural talents. Its ample grounds include a lake for various water sports and a nature reserve for hikes and fieldwork.
As the school prides itself on its Athletic Development programme, which enables students to develop a lifelong sporting passion, they have facilities for every sport imaginable from full-size grass pitches for rugby and football; astroturfs for hockey and cricket; indoor and outdoor courts for tennis, netball, basketball and badminton; a 50m swimming pool, a 400-metre athletics track, an indoor climbing centre, and a world-class gym facility. MCM even has an official partnership with The Els Golf academy, and is constructing a 20bay driving range and a putting green on-campus, for budding golf talents to use in their evening practices.
Being a student at MCM also gains them a lifelong membership to the global Old Marlburian network. Founded in 1884, The Marlburian Club, which includes graduates of Marlborough College UK and Marlborough College Malaysia, continues to support members way beyond their schooling years, through access to professional groups, networking opportunities, mentoring programmes, career advice, work experience opportunities, social events and more. After all, as per its ethos, ‘once a Marlburian, always a Marlburian’.
