efueling the Way
Porsche is more committed to reducing its carbon footprint
With the entry of the Porsche Taycan into the local market, it’s clear that Porsche is paving its way into reducing emissions and going green. A noble move which is further supplemented by the brand’s investment into efuels via a partnership with HIF Global LLC.
The carmaker invested US$75 million into HIF Global to ensure its vehicles run close to CO2 neutral levels, in order to lower the usage as well as dependency on fossil fuels.
Many people would have already come to know of the Airbus flight powered mostly by cooking oil and waste fats, which safely completed a three-hour flight from Toulouse to Nice, France on March 29 using Sustainable Aviation Fuel or SAF, which is an example of an efuel.
Thus, it’s great to know that Porsche is also looking and invested into that sustainable direction. And as a result would see users having more than just electric vehicles as an option to drive around in while maintaining the environment, plus also ensures innovation and competition among other carmakers.
Produced by harvesting wind energy, efuels comprise hydrogen and CO2 which are possible to be used in combustion engines. Then there’s also the byproduct that is e-methanol—which also works as fuel and is an important raw material in other industries.
Porsche is convinced that with the improvements in technology, production costs of efuels will be further reduced, alongside pollution. However, it also depends on governments as well, in terms of taxes and levies, but most countries are generally moving in the right direction.
One thing is for sure, users can look forward to using efuels for most Porsche models, not to mention most other cars, without any necessary modifications done to the engines in the near future—thus ensuring the future of our planet as well.
