A Shimi Kind of Love

-

22.2.22—a palindromic date or an “angel” number that signifies connections, the energy of duality, partnership, relationship and balance—is a rare occurrence to only happen once in our lifetime.

Connections are a concept so fleeting yet simple and everlasting when you’ve found the right one. Something that—if you’ve had the pleasure of being around Shikin Gomez and Rami Aladdin or seeing their surprise engagement proposal—is undeniable between the gorgeous newlyweds.

Followed by their intimate nikah ceremony on New Year’s Day 2022, the couple whisked their nearest and dearest to the beautiful island of Langkawi to witness their romantic wedding at the serene Temple Tree Resort. Langkawi was a no-brainer for the couple, as they were riding high on the bliss of getting engaged. “Our friends had the vision to have the wedding reception in Langkawi because it holds a special place in our hearts,” says the bride. The Temple Tree Resort couldn’t have been a more perfect choice for the couple as they were enthused about “the modern twist to the traditional houses in Temple Tree. The simplicity of the space is like a breath of fresh air.”

The theme ‘connections’ is perfect for the #Shimi couple as a lot of the inspiration for their wedding celebrations came from the close bond that the couple share with their family-like group of friends. Something that runs deep within each of them is the friendship that they all have with each other. “Here are bits of the wedding details that are inspired by our close friends … We took inspiration from our ethnicities, traditions,

friends and our love for all things minimalist,” says Shikin.

The wedding reception was attended by guests who had travelled from Kuala Lumpur and abroad, who all dressed in white to celebrate the stunning couple. The wedding decor itself was painted in shades of white and neutral tones set against a traditional setting of carefully-curated traditional homes transported from various states in Malaysia. The custom floating plexiglass aisle that ran through the main pool at the Temple Tree Resort was designed after a runway—a nod to the bride’s career as a fashion model.

“There were challenges leading up to the day of [the wedding], with me losing my father weeks after getting engaged; balancing work, social life, wedding planning and funeral arrangements, the past six months have felt like a lifetime. And I loved every bit of it. It was tedious, and we are never doing this again, but it was so much fun,” says Shikin.

“With a lot of work, a little luck, and help from our trusty work management tools and to-do lists, we were able to go from sourcing suppliers to assigning rooms for our guests in what now feels like no time,” says the entrepreneur, Rami.

Shikin looked gorgeously ethereal as she walked down the floating glass aisle radiating in a custom white Alia Bastamam dress, and Rami awaited her arrival at the end in a white suit from Vestio Bespoke. The vow exchange ceremony was officiated by Tunku Elana Khyra, a close friend of the

couple and the groom’s confidante in planning the surprise proposal aboard Manta Blu Cruises. Disposable cameras were given out to each guest before the vow exchange ceremony as phones were temporarily kept away to ensure that everyone was fully immersed in the moment.

“We chose Elana because she is such an inspiration— she is one of the strongest, most dedicated, well-spoken and humble people we know. And also because she was my number one accomplice for the surprise proposal on Manta Blu Cruises last September. We felt like it was a beautiful way for things to come in full circle,” says Rami.

The ceremony was nothing short of intimate and full of all-encompassing love that was set against the backdrop of the enchanting golden island sunset. With a seat kept empty at the front for Shikin’s father who passed away shortly after the proposal, he was certainly there in spirit blessing the beautiful couple.

A day that came together perfectly to celebrate love and beautiful memories— so wonderfully kismet in which the stars aligned to bring together the union of Shikin Gomez and Rami Aladdin on a day where angels were watching.
