In­dia’s Prime Min­is­ter Naren­dra Modi asked all its 1.3 bil­lion cit­i­zens to re­main home­bound for 21 days to pre­vent the spread of the novel coro­n­avirus, plac­ing the world’s sec­ond most pop­u­lous na­tion in a lock­down, the scale of which has no prece­dent in hu­man his­tory. Modi warned peo­ple that ven­tur­ing out dur­ing the pe­riod will risk invit­ing the deadly virus into their homes.
