GUNMEN RM60‚000 TO KILL DATIN

CASE SOLVED: Businessman behind murder of woman whom he owed RM13m

THE murder of real estate agent Datin Wong Siu Ling in Taman OUG on July 6 was masterminded by a businessman who owed her RM13 million.

Police investigations revealed that Wong wanted to venture into the ceramic business and gave the money to the businessman and his wife last year.

City police chief Datuk Amar Singh said the victim, however, asked the couple to return the money when she found out that the venture was not taking off.

“Police found that the victim had hired a private investigator to locate the businessman and his wife to get her money back.

“The businessman and his wife engaged two contract killers through a restaurant owner and his wife, who acted as middlemen,” he said at the city police headquarters here.

Both couples and the two hired killers were among eight suspects arrested here and in Perak two days ago.

The other two were associates of the contract killers.

The eight suspects are aged between 26 and 54.

Police found that the businessman paid the gunmen RM60,000 to murder Wong, said Amar.

He said police seized a Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol when they arrested the hired killers in Chemor near Ipoh.

Ballistic tests revealed that the firearm had been used in three previous cases, including a murder in Chemor and an attempted murder in Sungai Siput Utara.

Amar said police considered the case solved with the suspects’ arrests.

However, police were looking for another man whom Amar said planned the murder.

He said police found that Wong got the money for the ceramic venture from her husband, who runs a business in China.

He said police were investigating the nature of the husband’s business.

He said police would probe into whether the victim’s business venture had elements of money laundering, and would call in officers from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department.

Wong was driving a Toyota Vellfire with five children, aged between 4 and 13, and a maid when two men on a motorcycle came alongside it and fired five shots.

One shot hit Wong in the neck, killing her instantly. Her 8-year-old daughter, who was in the front passenger seat, was wounded.
