‘PKR, Pas will have no problem reaching a consensus’

-

GEORGE TOWN: PKR remains hopeful of working with Pas if the proposed snap polls take place as planned.

Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Rashid Hasnon said PKR had good ties with Pas and would have no problem reaching a consensus at the national level.

“We (PKR) and Pas need some time to get DAP to justify the need to have snap polls,” he said at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here yesterday.

There are 40 state seats in Penang, with PKR holding 10, DAP (19) and Barisan Nasional (10).

Datuk Salleh Man is the sole Pas assemblyman (Permatang Pasir).

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state election would be for the people to decide whether they still wanted DAP and Pakatan Harapan to represent them with full authority, despite what might happen to him.

“A state general election would return the mandate to the people; it is not about saving me,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

“DAP believes in building mutual trust. We believe that any final decision would have to be deliberated at least by the Pakatan Harapan presidential council.

“Despite the attempted sabotage by this internal Pakatan source (about the snap polls), discussions will continue in the Pakatan consultative spirit.

“We hope this will stop the media frenzy and prove that DAP and Pakatan Harapan are not afraid to risk our government posts, by returning the mandate to the people to make the final choice in accordance with democratic practices,” he said.
