Have more parking space, Prasarana urged

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Light Rail Transit (LRT) commuters have asked Prasarana Malaysia Bhd to build more parking space for them, now that the public have turned to public transport to reach their destinations.

They urged Prasarana to build multi-storey parking and instal more streetlights around the bays to enhance security in the area.

Administrator Azeera Natasha A. Nasruddin, 24, usually parked her car at the Datuk Keramat station before taking the LRT but of late, many have double-parked, causing inconvenience to others.

“Park n Ride facilities at LRT stations should be prioritised for commuters only. Currently, everyone, including those working around the Datuk Keramat station, is utilising the parking lots,” she said.

Azeera Natasha urged Prasarana to increase the parking space by building multi-level parking lots as she noted there was an increase in the number of commuters since the launch of the new line extension.

Executive Daarshanaa Kurup Baskaran, 26, urged Prasarana to upgrade security service at the LRT station’s Park n Ride facility.

Among his suggestions were to add more streetlights, employing security officers round the clock as well as installing closed-circuit television cameras.

Meanwhile, at the Chan Sow Lin station, commuters expressed frustration over the long-wait, congested coaches and irregular service.

Human resources executive Noraini Abd Manan, 53, said the new requirement for commuters from Ampang Line to switch trains at the Chan Sow Lin station to reach the city centre was the reason for the congestion.

Noraini, who travels daily from Bandar Tun Razak to Bandaraya station, said: “When the train arrives at Chan Sow Lin station from Putra Heights, it is already packed with passengers. This is a hassle for those from the Ampang Line as they are unable to get into the packed train.”

Clerk Rosnah Mat Pian, 46, said the LRT’s schedule must be improved and frequency increased to avoid congestion.

“I travel every day from Sungai Besi to Hang Tuah station and now it takes more time to reach my destination.”
