Yee Ting’s final shot

-

ARCHER Koh Yee Ting is hoping to deliver for Sarawak one last time at their home Malaysia Games before calling time on her career in the sport.

A dilemma commonly faced by many athletes around the world, Yee Ting has chosen to sacrifice her career in sports to pursue her studies in accountancy.

“The plan is for me to retire once the Malaysia Games are over and take up a course at a college in Sibu,” said the 18-year-old.

“If it was up to me, I would like to continue pursuing my career in sports but my mother is expecting me to further my studies in accountancy.”

Yee Ting added that she is aiming to improve on her performance at the Perlis Games two years ago.

She will, however, be competing in the compound event this time instead of the recurve discipline that

at the Petra Jaya Sports Complex yesterday. she competed in Perlis.

“Obviously, playing at home will be special. My personal goal is to win a gold and do better than Perlis.

“We (Sarawak archers) have been training since the end of the Perlis Malaysia Games but I feel there is still room for improvement.

“There are some areas we will be working on over these last few days

until the tournament. Hopefully we will be at our best when the competition starts.”

Yee Ting was part of the recurve team that won gold in Perlis and had also clinched silver in the individual category.

She listed archers from Sabah, Penang and Terengganu as those she expects to be dangerous at the Malaysia Games this time.

The five-day archery competition will be held at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak campus from Sunday.
