Hold prayers seeking concert’s cancellation, Selangor told
SHAH ALAM: Selangor executive councillor in charge of Islamic affairs Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi has directed mosques in the state to perform special prayers to stop the concert by pop star Selena Gomez from proceeding on Monday.
“All mosques in Selangor have been directed to hold special prayers after Friday prayers or at any convenient time before the concert is held.
“We do not condone any form of pleasure and extreme form of entertainment that could invite the wrath of God,” he said yesterday.
On Wednesday, the state Pas handed a memorandum to the state government asking that the concert be cancelled as it was deemed inappropriate, especially as it was scheduled to be held in the holy month of Syawal.
The chief of the state party’s Youth wing, Hanafi Zulkapli, had said the concert would be a negative influence, promoting illicit relations, sex, and the use of drugs and alcohol.
Pas Youth dakwah committee chairman Hafez Sabri had said Gomez was sexy, and holding the concert during Syawal was disrespectful.
However, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali had said the state government did not see any problem in issuing a permit to the concert organisers as long as the show adhered to the rules and regulations of live performances.
