Kuala Lumpur after she was sentenced to four years jail for department’s Wangsa Maju branch on July 4. KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) clerk, who masterminded the RM754,800 armed heist at its Wangsa Maju branch, was yesterday sentenced to four years’ jail by the Sessions Court.

Norzaisyima Ahmad Zaidi, 40, who worked in the department’s accounts and revenue unit, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at the department in Wangsa Maju here at 5.30pm on July 4.

The mother of seven was jointly charged with gravedigger Shamsuri Abdul Karim, despatch rider Mohamad Afif Hussin, 26, and another person still at large, with robbing the department’s accounts and revenue unit of RM754,840, while armed with a machete.

However, Shamsuri and Afif claimed trial and were given RM10,000 bail with one surety each, pending mention on Aug 10.

Norzaisyima, who was unrepresented, in mitigation told judge Zainal L. Saleh that she had committed the offence out of desperation as she had loans to settle with loan sharks.

She added that her eldest offspring was a special needs child, and the youngest was a toddler below the age of 2.

“I surrendered to the police and gave back some of the money and jewellery which was robbed. Please give me a lenient sentence. I know what I did was wrong.”

Zainal asked Norzaisyima whether she thought about her children when committing the crime.

“How many years do you want me to offer you? This is a serious crime and you can be jailed up to 20 years. Luckily your are a woman and, therefore, you will not be caned.

“This is a typical a case of harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi. (centre) leaving the Sessions Court in

“It is a good thing that you pleaded guilty. By doing so, it has become a mitigating factor for you.”

Zainal also told Norzaisyima that having loans to settle with loan sharks and a special needs child was no excuse for her to commit the serious crime of armed robbery.

“The law does not allow me to take that as mitigating factors and the sentence should be a lesson to you and must make you realise what you did was wrong.

“You gave back RM85,000 of the money you robbed, but had spent some of the money.

“I will not ask you how much you spent.”

Deputy public prosecutor Amira Sariaty Zainal prosecuted, while Shamsuri was represented by Shalehhuddin Salam.

Zainal ordered the sentence to take effect from Norzaisyima’s date of arrest on July 11.
