Trump facing the music

-

ROME: Luciano Pavarotti’s family says the late opera singer would not have approved of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s use of his recording of Giacomo Puccini’s aria Nessun Dorma , or None Shall Sleep, in his election campaign.

After the Rolling Stones, Adele, REM and other artistes had asked Trump to stop using their music, Pavarotti’s family in Italy made the same request about the maestro’s work.

“As members of his immediate family, we would like to recall that the values of brotherhood and solidarity, which Pavarotti expressed throughout the course of his career are entirely incompatible with the world view offered by the candidate Donald Trump,” the statement said.

Nessun Dorma has frequently been played at Trump rallies.

The estate of former Beatle George Harrison is complaining about the use of his music at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Harrison’s family tweeted yesterday that the use of the song, Here Comes the Sun, during the introduction of candidate Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, was unauthorised, and was “offensive and against the wishes of the Harrison estate”.

Rocker Paul Rodgers also complained about the use of his All Right Now at the climax of Trump’s speech.

Earlier in the convention, Brian May of Queen complained about the use of the band’s 1977 hit, We Are the Champions, during a Trump convention appearance. Agencies
