TIP-OFF: Police detain man, 41, in Subang Jaya

POLICE yesterday detained another suspect in the recent murder of a real estate agent in Taman OUG here.

City police chief Datuk Amar Singh said the 41-year-old suspect was detained in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

“Based on a tip-off, a Criminal Investigation Department team from Kuala Lumpur tracked down the suspect and detained him at 7.30pm,” he said, adding that police would apply for a remand order today.

On July 6, Datin Wong Siu Ling was shot dead while driving her Toyota Vellfire in Taman OUG.

Two men on a motorcycle had ridden alongside her vehicle and fired several shots, one of which wounded her 8-year-old daughter.

Her four other children and a maid, who were in the vehicle at the time, escaped unscathed.

On July 19, eight people, aged between 26 and 54, including two women, were arrested over the shooting.

Over the weekend, police arrested a contract killer hired to kill Wong.

Among those detained were a businessman and his wife, who had hired the hitmen to kill Wong.

Investigations revealed that Wong had given the businessman RM13 million to venture into the ceramic business, but when the business did not take off, she demanded the money back.

It was this, it was reported, that led to the businessman hiring contract killers.

Also among those arrested were a restaurant owner and his wife, who acted as middlemen between the businessman and the contract killers.

Meanwhile, the High Court yesterday extended the remand of the eight suspects.

Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Shariff Abu Samah, in extending the remand order until Sunday, said: “Let police take their time to investigate as they want to be thorough and diligent. This is a murder case.

“Police might charge or release the suspects when the remand order ends on Sunday or even before that. I do not want to tell police what to do because they know what they are doing.”

Police, through the prosecution, had applied to the High Court for the revision of a second remand order for the six men and two women, aged between 20 and 50.

On Monday, a magistrate allowed the remand to be extended by only a day.

The first remand was for six days and it ended on Monday.

Shariff told lawyers Dinesh Muthal, John Das, Rajsurian Pillai and Christopher Lai King

Lung that they could meet their clients during visiting hours at the remand centre.

“If you go there at midnight or 3am, you will not be allowed to meet your clients.”

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Nordin Ismail prosecuted.

In the 2.28pm incident, Wong was killed when she was shot at point blank.
