He said the matter was being discussed at the Malaysia-Thailand Executive Committee Meeting.
“I will meet Thailand’s Armed Forces chief General Worapong Sanganeta in Bangkok,” he said at the armed forces’ Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration here yesterday.
Zulkifeli said there were currently two separate walls, both constructed in each country. A new single wall, jointly constructed with its construction and maintenance costs to be shared, was needed.
The announcement on the new wall was made by Zulkifeli on Sept 14 last year, in which he stated that the two countries needed to coordinate border patrolling.
“We are looking into the construction of a more advanced wall, equipped with the latest technology, to enhance border security control,” he said.
Earlier, Zulkifeli handed over Hari Raya aid to 41 army retirees and five soldiers, some of whom were injured during service.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah Hamidun graced the event, held at Wisma Perwira ATM here.
The royal couple spent about 90 minutes at the event, including watching a performance by the army’s Culture Troupe.
Present were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and his deputy, Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum. Bernama
