80,000 target for productivity wage system

-

KUANTAN: The Human Resources Ministry is targeting more than 80,000 companies to implement the Productivity-Linked Wage System (PLWS) by 2020.

Its deputy minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib, said as Malaysia was gearing towards becoming a high-income nation, the implementation of PLWS could increase workers’ productivity, thus, improving the companies’ competitiveness.

“Through PLWS, workers will be motivated to increase their productivity and perform better.

“The increase in productivity will improve the overall competitiveness of the companies for them to expand into the international market,” he said during the launch of the “PLWS Colloquium and Straight Talk” for the east coast zone held here yesterday.

Ismail said the ministry promoted PLWS through publications, seminars, dialogues and colloquiums, as well as helped companies promote it to their workers.

He said studies showed the productivity and profit of companies that had implemented PLWS increased by 15 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.

“As for the workers, their wages increased by 10 per cent.”

Ismail said until May, 79,645 companies had implemented PLWS, benefiting 3.5 million workers.

“In Pahang, there are 3,024 companies that have implemented PLWS and 109,805 workers have benefited.”

At the event, 10 companies operating in the Gebeng industrial area were selected to be the role model for the east coast’s PLWS Hub.

“This hub aims to turn the Gebeng industrial area into a place to expand PLWS, while improving the companies and workers’ productivity and performance,” said Ismail. Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib
