NO INJURIES: Same toll booth was previously hit by another overloaded vehicle on July 8

BARELY a month after being destroyed by a lorry, the toll booth at the Ayer Keroh toll plaza here took another battering when an overloaded lorry hit it yesterday morning.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the 6.30am incident.

It is learnt that the lorry, overloaded with clay, hit the side of the toll booth as the driver was entering the toll interchange.

The 44-year-old driver fled the scene but was later arrested in Sedenak, Johor, after authorities traced him via closed-circuit television cameras.

A police spokesman said the driver was entering Malacca from Kuala Lumpur.

“He wanted to use the toll booth on his right, but lost control of the vehicle before ramming into the adjacent booth on his left.”

after it was hit by a lorry at the Ayer Keroh toll plaza in Malacca yesterday.

He said both booths were unattended and that there were no other motorists nearby at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, a PLUS Malaysia Bhd spokesman said the toll booth was still under repair after it was hit by

a sleepy lorry driver on July 8.

“We had just completed installing the booth and were placing the technical toll system before it was damaged again,” he said, adding that repair works would take a month to complete.

On July 8, a 34-year-old lorry driver rammed into two adjacent booths simultaneously.

A female attendant who was in one of the booths escaped with minor injuries on the left hand.

Malacca acting traffic chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Sham Abdullah said the case was investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
