RM8B GDV: Eco Horizon, Eco Sun at Batu Kawan to be its biggest gated township projects in Penang

ECO World Development Group Bhd is planning to launch its two integrated township projects in Batu Kawan, Penang, by early next year.

Its general manager Khoo Teck Chong said planning permission for the proposed projects — which carry a gross development value of RM8 billion — had been submitted to the local authorities.

“We are hoping that both the Eco Horizon and Eco Sun projects will take off simultaneously by early next year,” he told Business Times.

Both projects, covering a combined 151ha, are within close proximity of the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge.

Khoo said the Batu Kawan development was poised to emerge as Eco World’s biggest gated and guarded integrated township projects in Penang, offering landed property units priced under RM1 million.

“Eco Horizon will comprise more than 1,000 landed stratified housing units spread over four precincts, while Eco Sun will have more than 500 units.

“The houses being offered will include terraced, semi-detached and cluster units and there will also be a commercial component at both sites,” he said.

Besides offering landed property units, Eco World is also banking on industrial development that is poised to take off at Batu Kawan, an area which is becoming home to top foreign investors.

“Our development is set to complement that of our neighbouring competitors and a street mall is likely to be one of the components of our integrated commercial development there,” said Khoo.

“What we plan to do with this development in Batu Kawan is to take full advantage of the over 151ha there and build a centralised clubhouse to serve all residents instead of smaller ones for every precinct,” he added.

Eco World’s landbank in Penang currently totals 180ha and Khoo said the company continued to be on the lookout for landbank at strategic locations on Penang island and in Seberang Prai.

Its existing projects in the state include the high-rise Eco Terraces at Paya Terubong on the island and Eco Meadows at Simpang Ampat on mainland Penang.
