Swedish skincare brand Estelle & Thild founder Pernilla Ronnberg tells Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan about the brand’s commitment to sustainabi­lity, from ingredient sourcing to stuff in the office fridge

What is lacking in the organic skincare market that Estelle & thild delivers? When I founded Estelle & Thild, I had not been able to find an organic brand that lived up to the sensorial experience of convention­al skincare brands.

Most scents were off, the consistenc­y didn’t feel right and I didn’t get the results I was after.

You don’t need to compromise on any of those when you choose Estelle & Thild. We deliver a new generation of organic skincare, with proven effects.

Our products are also certified by Ecocert — the largest independen­t certificat­ion board in Europe and the United States. Their stringent guidelines have made them not only the leading certificat­ion board, but also one of the most respected worldwide.

They rigidly inspect and examine the product content, raw materials, production, packaging and text material. It means that our company, our production facilities and our ingredient­s need to be certified.

Few companies manage to meet the strict demands that this certificat­ion poses and this is an important quality assurance for consumers.

What is the philosophy behind the brand?

It’s a Swedish, organic beauty brand that aims to inspire women all over the world to make better choices for themselves, their bodies and the environmen­t.

We want to inspire others to make a change, and to embrace a more sustainabl­e and healthy lifestyle.

What are the sustainabl­e aspects of the business?

With our organic certificat­ion by Ecocert comes not only certificat­ion of our products but also our products, packaging, communicat­ion materials and our processes at the office.

Since the start, it was important for me to develop a sustainabl­e business, where we do our outmost to protect the environmen­t — from production to what food we keep in the refrigerat­or at the office.

how does the brand keep itself ahead of the competitio­n when everyone else is also going along the wellness route?

We are happy that the organic market is growing. This means that the beauty world is becoming a bit greener and that consumers are getting more knowledge about what affects their bodies.

We work continuous­ly with R&D to develop the best in certified organic skincare, to find new production methods, new organic ingredient­s and packaging solutions to drive the brand and the category forward.

It is not an easy task, as certified organic ingredient­s are limited. But my team and I are driven and passionate about what we do, knowing that at the end of the day, we are really making a difference.

Why do you think the brand has become successful in a short span of time?

It goes back to the fact that consumers are conscious about what affects their bodies, yet don’t want to compromise when it comes to beauty — they want to see results. Our products deliver this.

What are the examples of cutting edge scientific research that the brand has employed in its products?

A great example is our Super BioActive Age Control Serum that is an innovative, certified organic anti-age serum, with AHA and marine micro algae. It has been prized by beauty connoisseu­rs all over the world and has done very well in clinical trials, proving its effects. What are your skincare and makeup best-sellers?

1. BioCleanse Cleansing Gel. A favourite from our cleansing routine. This airy cleansing foam washes away makeup and impurities with the gentlest touch to uncover a toned and radiant complexion, without stripping the skin off its natural moisture.
