E-Faraid to help courts settle cases in 1 hour
NILAI: The e-Faraid system introduced this year allows the management of estate cases in syariah courts to be completed within just one hour.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the system, which was created by the Malaysian Syariah Judiciary Department and private company Bit Group, comprised two components — e-Faraid and k-Faraid.
He said e-Faraid would aid syariah court judges and officials in handling faraid (distribution of a deceased’s property to his or her heirs) cases.
“The judge will just need to fill in the needed information, such as the name of the beneficiaries, in the system. The system will automatically make the calculations for distribution of the estate and property,” he said in a speech read by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom at the opening of the National Seminar on Transformation of Estate Management in Malaysia and the launch of e-Faraid at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia here yesterday.
Zahid said k-Faraid was an interactive learning module on Islamic Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department

inheritance jurisprudence, including information on the composition of heirs and methods of calculation.
“E-Faraid can be regarded as the first of its kind in the world because no other country, including in the Middle East, has come up with
such a system.”
Jamil Khir said before the introduction of the e-Faraid system, the management of estate cases in syariah courts used to take a long time to be resolved.
“On average, it took about three months to a year to complete a case,” he said after the launch.
He said the new system would be more convenient, as it was linked to the National Registration Department and several related government agencies.
