OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS: Tunku Kurshiah College to shine again in sports

THE setting up of the Tunku Arishah Sports Arena (TASA) in Tunku Kurshiah College (TKC) here is set to restore the college’s glory days in sports.

Built at a cost of RM4.2 million, TASA boasts world-class sports facilities such as a spectator pavilion, hockey pitch and an eight-lane 400m running track, with a seating capacity of 308.

TKC principal Anismah Noh, 54, said high-end sports accessories, such as hurdles, starting blocks and discus netting, would also complement the sports arena, which was awaiting certification from the International Amateur Athletics Federations (IAAF).

“We have world-class facilities under one roof.

“I hope this will boost the students’ spirits in doing well again in sports, at the same time sustaining their excellent educational performance,” Anismah told the New Sunday Times.

She said since the relocation of TKC from Seremban to Bandar Enstek here four years ago, TKC had been deprived of decent sports fa-

The cilities, making it hard for the students to maintain the school’s outstanding achievements in sports.

“TKC was once a top player in sports in the country. The lack of sports facilities had made it hard for the school to maintain its success, especially in the past four years.

“During this period, our students had to rely on sports facilities elsewhere to organise activities or programmes related to sports.

“It wasn’t a convenient arrangement

in Tunku Kurshiah College, Nilai. and it eventually took a toll on their sports performance,” she said.

But all that will be a thing of the past now that TASA is ready to serve students and teachers.

For a start, the TKC annual sports day would be making a comeback, after a four-year break, on Oct 27 at TASA.

“We are all set to revive TKC’s sports performance. We are back in the game,” said Anismah.

Launched by Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir yesterday, TASA was made possible by Ambank Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim and his wife, Tunku Arishah Tunku Maamor, who had funded the setting up of the sports arena via the Azman Hashim Foundation.

The foundation will also fund the construction of a multi-purpose hall, costing RM490,000, which would be named the Azman Hashim Multi-Purpose Hall.

The foundation is also contributing an additional RM10,000 to assist 100 students under the “Tunku Kurshiah Special Project Students” programme.

Each student will receive RM100 to support their financial needs.

“We are grateful to have received donations from the foundation. Without the assistance of the foundation, and TKC Old Girls Association, which has worked hard to provide the best facilities for the school, we won’t be able to make this dream come true,” said Anismah.
