Disaster if Ozil, Sanchez leave, says Keane

-

LONDON: Roy Keane has urged Arsene Wenger to convince Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to sign new contracts at Arsenal because ‘it would be a disaster if they left’.

Ozil bagged his first hat-trick for the Gunners and Sanchez scored with a sublime chip as Arsene Wenger’s side thrashed Ludogorets 6-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The pair also registered an assist each as they both continued their excellent form that has helped Arsenal up to second in the Premier League on level points with Manchester City.

Both players are out of contract in the summer of 2018 and, according to Wenger, have said that they will decide their futures based on the club’s performances and not money.

Reports, however, have suggested that Ozil and Sanchez have demanded £250,000 (RM1.275 million)-aweek to extend their contracts until 2020.

But former Manchester United midfielder Keane, who was appearing as a pundit on ITV’s Champions League highlights show, has stressed the importance of Arsenal keeping the two players on the books.

“Trying to get Ozil signed up is vital for the club and I think what would help them is winning trophies and the big trophies obviously the Champions League and the Premiership,” he said.

“They look a bit short but Arsenal to be a club that go on to the next level for the next few years have to get these players signed up.
