Malaysia boosts eBay growth
HUGE OPPORTUNITIES: Local retail exporters take advantage of weaker ringgit to sell worldwide
BAY Inc, a global e-marketplace, is experiencing strong growth in a range of categories as Malaysia’s online retail exporters take advantage of the weaker ringgit to sell their products worldwide.
eBay has identified huge growth opportunities in certain categories after seeing “an exciting trend” this year for emerging Malaysian businesses and young entrepreneurs seeking to grow new revenue streams.
The categories include car parts, cell phones, sporting goods, home improvement, computers, consumer electronics and home furnishing.
“This year, we have made great progress in Malaysia and are witnessing favourable opportunities for our merchants.
“We have experienced strong growth rates in seven prime categories of cross-border trade and it is my belief there are still many opportunities for savvy Malaysian businesses,” said eBay Malaysia cross-border trade country head Wong Mei Inn.
She said the high growth indication was a welcome sign for new merchants to come on board eBay, as these high-performing categories are multi-million-dollar sales opportunities in their own right.
One of the Malaysian companies which have expanded their reach globally is Tradeworks International Sdn Bhd.
Since joining eBay in 2001, the company has seen increased exports that hit US$15 million (RM62.2 million) to Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Online cross-border trading is helping businesses of all sizes export to the global marketplace with unprecedented ease.
“For small businesses in particular, crossborder e-commerce holds the key to creating a growing opportunity to sell to the world.
“eBay is able to offer Malaysian retailers, entrepreneurs and home-grown sellers the ability to expand their business opportunities by providing a global shop-front accessed by 164 million buyers around the world,” said Wong.
