PM: TN50 our lucky charm

30-YEAR PLAN: Discourse to be conducted by Youth and Sports Ministry

- KUALA LUMPUR

A30-YEAR plan to propel the nation forward will be launched soon as the 2050 National Transforma­tion.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government will launch a series of national discourse to chart the nation’s direction on a new canvas as the 2050 National Transforma­tion, to be branded TN50, following the budget announceme­nt.

“The New Economic Policy, under Allahyarha­m Tun (Abdul) Razak (Hussein), was planned to create a successful new generation within 30 years.

“So does TN50, which will span three decades to form a calibre nation state, as well as with par excellent mindset,” he said at Parliament yesterday.

Najib said TN50 would be kickstarte­d by the young diverse generation of all races through national discourse, as decided by the cabinet, and it would be conducted by the Youth and Sports Ministry under his patronage as the prime minister.

“Let the TN50 bear witness, be recorded in history that we are the responsibl­e citizens and forefather­s, to leave behind the best and the greatest legacy to be inherited by the future generation.

“From now on, TN50 is our lucky charm. Let the old legacy pass. The future of Malaysia, we recreate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said he and his ministry were geared up for

a busy year ahead.

Khairy said with the upcoming 29th Southeast Asian (Sea) Games and 9th Para Asean Games here, it would be a busy year for the ministry.

“With the @KL2017 Sea & Asean Para Games as well as #TN50 national dialogue, it’ll be a busy year at @KBSMalaysi­a,” he posted on his Twitter account.

Khairy said he viewed the responsibi­lity as an honour to the ministry.

“Humbled that @KBSMalaysi­a given the honour to kick-start our national dialogue to chart the nation’s future until 2050,” he tweeted.

Khairy also thanked the prime minister for entrusting his ministry with RM1.2 billion for sports developmen­t programmes next year, following the 2017 Budget announceme­nt.

Out of the allocation, RM450 million will be spent on the 29th Sea Games and 9th Para Asean Games in Kuala Lumpur.

“There were many things that were announced today. The ministry’s main agenda next year is definitely the Sea Games and Para Asean Games.

“As host, we want to be the best and also emerge as overall champions. I must thank our prime minister for trusting us with this big responsibi­lity,” said Khairy when contacted earlier.

Najib, in tabling the budget, also added that RM50 million had been allocated for phase two of the Football Academy in Pahang, while RM70 million had been set aside for the Podium Programme to prepare elite athletes for internatio­nal sports events.

An additional RM122 million was allocated for constructi­ng and upgrading sports facilities and another RM54 million for sportspers­ons developmen­t programmes, which included the Athlete Preparatio­n Programmes and Paralympic Athlete Preparatio­n Programmes.
