The couple, who also acted in local dramas as extras, were believed to be involved in at least 15 house robberies here over the past six months.

Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said police nabbed the suspects, aged 31 and 34, during an afternoon raid at their rented house in Seksyen 19 here. The raiding team, led by investigators from the district police Criminal Investigation Department, also discovered a number of pawnshop receipts in the house.

Shafien said investigations led police to pawnshops in the Puchong and Sunway areas, where police seized jewellery, believed to be stolen and sold by the duo.

“Police were then led to a house in Puchong Utama, where we arrested another suspect — an Indonesian man aged 42 — who had bought items from the suspects. There, police seized a number of valuables including laptops, gaming consoles, television sets and smartphones.

“Initial investigation revealed that the actor had been active in breaking into apartments and terrace houses here, usually during working hours.

“The suspects then sold the stolen jewellery to pawnshops, while other valuables were sold to the Indonesian man,” said Shafien at a press conference at the district police headquarters here yesterday.

Shafien said police estimated that the stolen items recovered were worth RM60,000. He said 11 victims had identified some of the items.

Police believed that the other valuables recovered during the operation could be from cases in other districts in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Shafien said the actor and actress — whom police dubbed as “Geng Seniman” as Persatuan Seniman Malaysia membership cards were found in their possession — and the Indonesian man were remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
