Media Prima journos win seven awards

KUCHING: Media Prima Bhd (MPB) journalist­s won seven awards in the Kenyalang Journalism Award 2016 here last night.

Berita Harian bureau chief Hardi Effendi Yaacob clinched the main Chief Minister’s Award and the main prize in the Bahasa Malaysia category for a special series on illegal logging in Sarawak.

The special report series were headlined Ops Pangkas selamat balak, Tandan palsu gagal perdaya pihak berkuasa, Sekat sindiket bermaharaj­alela: Adenan and Penjara, denda RM25,000 menanti.

Hardi bagged a total of RM8,000, including RM5,000 which came with the Chief Minister’s Award that was formerly know as the Kenyalang Journalism Award.

TV3 cameraman Abu Zaidi Abu Bakar bagged the Chief Minister’s Award for the television category for his report on the mishap involving Air Asia Flight QZ8501.

Zaidi also secured the first and third places for his reports on Air Asia Flight QZ8501 and Bantu rumah panjang in the television category.

Harian Metro journalist Rabi’atul ‘Adawiyah Ismail bagged the third prize in the Sustainabi­lity Reporting Awards category for her report titled Batu karang istimewa ganiofora boleh diproses jadi tulang manusia gentian.

She also came third in the Community Wellbeing and Rural Developmen­t Journalism category for her report titled Wira ubat.

State Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah represente­d Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem and presented the prizes to winners.
