Part of funds to upgrade patrol cars

-

JOHOR BARU: About 80 per cent of the police forces’ patrol vehicles are between 15 and 20 years old, and need to be replaced to keep up with the modern vehicles used by criminals.

Deputy Home Ministry Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said part of the RM8.7 billion allocated to the police would be used to replace these vehicles with ones that are more robust and durable.

“We have been asking for more allocations to replace these vehicles for a few years. It is still not enough but we will make do and replace the vehicles in areas that are in critical need first.

“This is important to ensure the omnipresence of police and to enable the police to better respond to reports by the public on criminal matters, especially since some criminals use more powerful vehicles.”

On the allocation for the building of 12 new district police headquarters, Nur Jazlan said the details of where they would be built have not been finalised.

“We will give priority to areas where the need is pressing.”

He was speaking after officiating the Graduation Day of Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar here.

Present was school principal Samsudin Md Ariff.

Nur Jazlan, who is Pulai member of parliament, said the ministry is thankful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for the allocations.
