1,400 race in Harian Metro Grand Prix

PORT DICKSON: A total of 1,400 people took part in the Harian Metro Mountain Bike Grand Prix (HMMTBGP) 2016 held here yesterday.

It was the second circuit to test the stamina of the participan­ts along 46km of hilly, steep, rocky and narrow paths.

Harian Metro group editor Datuk Mustapa Omar and Affin Islamic Bank Bhd chief executive officer Nazlee Khalifah officiated the event.

Mustapa said the participat­ion in HMMTBGP 2016 was overwhelmi­ng.

“I hope all participan­ts get maximum experience from this tournament and test their skills through this challengin­g route.”

Three locations have been selected for HMMTBGP mountain bike challenge this year, with Skudai, Johor, being the last stop of the tournament on Dec 3.

The first circuit was held in Kulim, Kedah, in July.

Five categories are included in HMMTBGP: Men’s Junior (19 years and below), Men’s Open (20 to 35 years), Men’s Junior Master (36 to 44 years), Men’s Senior Master (45 years and above) and Women’s Open.

The Men’s Open category was won by Muhammad Fauzan Ahmad Lutfi, while Muaz Abdul Rahim and Abdul Arif won second and third place respective­ly.

The Women’s Open was won by Nuntana Supuksorn, Kamonlakho­n Sarocha (second place) and Masziyaton Mohd Radzi (third place).

Mohd Zukri Tahir won first place in the Men’s Junior Master category, while Azizul Azli Shaari and Zamilan Abdullah won second and third place respective­ly.

The Men’s Senior Master category was won by Chipmart Prasert, Tan Chee Yong (second place) and Mohd Razani Husin (third place).

Mohd Zahin Wahhi bagged first prize for the Men’s Junior category, while Muhammad Fakhruazam Mohd Hanifiah and Mohd Fikri Majimin won second and third place respective­ly.

New Straits Times Press Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah presented the prizes.
