Arvin, who only had his own teammates to worry about overtaking him, said he was delighted to take his first overall win this season with a final time of 17:53:54s. As expected, Pishgaman took the overall team classifica­tion.

“It was quite tough as there were a lot of breakaway attempts from zero km and the pace was really hard,” said the 26-year-old.

“But we did our best to keep up till the end. As I had said before our goal was to keep the

jersey with the team, it did not matter if I did not win it.”

Sung Baek, who had also won the third intermedia­te sprint at Kampung Rhu Muda, emerged the winner of the blue jersey (points classifica­tion).

Indonesian Aris Iswana (Pegasus Cycling) had won the first sprint at Paka.

TSG were hoping to win at home through sprinter Harrif Saleh, who came in fifth, but for the second stage in a row failed to successful­ly catch the breakaway group to allow for a bunch sprint.

National team’s Nik Muhammad Azwan Zulkifle crossed the line 17th, seven seconds behind Sung Baek but it was enough to see him take the overall win in the best Malaysian competitio­n with an overall time of 18:01:25s.

“I did not expect to finish ahead of two China divers today. I was only aiming for a medal and to my surprise I topped the event,” said Wendy in Kuching yesterday.

“Training was not good going into this event as I only had about two weeks to prepare. I am happy to sign off the season with a gold.

“I must thank coach Yang Zhuliang for not giving up on me. I need to recover from so many injuries and hopefully, I can come back stronger next season.”

Malaysia also earned a silver through Ooi Tze Liang-Chew Yiwei, who finished with 394.71 points in the men's 10m platform synchro final, won by China’s Xie Siyi-Peng Jianfeng (415.20). By Ajitpal Singh him as TSG’s Nur Amirul Fakhruddin Marzuki, who finished second in the category, was looking for every opportunit­y to gain time on him.

“Amirul was really aggressive from the start and tried to break away at every chance he had,” said Azwan, who came in third in the fourth stage.

Australian Jesse James Ewart (7Eleven SAVA RB Philippine­s) won the white jersey (best young rider) with a final time of 18:04:08s.
