‘ISTANA MANTIN’: Sanjeevan is angry with me for all the charges he is facing, says Khalid

INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday has brushed aside a report lodged against him with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

It was lodged by a non-organisational group chairman who claimed Khalid had built a house worth RM5.5 million in Mantin, Negri Sembilan, sponsored by illegal gaming syndicate heads.

Ironically, anti-crime watchdog MyWatch chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan, who lodged the report, is himself the focus of investigations for criminal offences and has been charged with some of them.

In brushing aside the report, Khalid told the New Straits Times that Sanjeevan seemed to blame him for the investigations and charges against the NGO head.

“He seems to be angry with me for all the charges he is facing and putting the blame on me for what happened to him. I will not respond to his demands and since he has lodged a report with MACC, I will leave it to the agency to conduct investigations.”

In his report lodged at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday, Sanjeevan claimed he had “documents and photographs” of “Istana Mantin” as proof.

“These documents received three or four months ago are believed to have been sent by someone in the police force. The documents state that the house was sponsored by heads of illegal gaming syndicates,” he said after lodging the report.

Sanjeevan said he hoped Khalid would clarify the matter as soon as possible as it was a “matter of integrity”.

He also said he hoped MACC would conduct a detailed and fair investigation into the matter.

MyWatch was supposedly founded to expose crime issues and dirty cops tarnishing the police force.

Sanjeevan, however, has in recent months been the subject of investigations based on reports lodged against him for offences, including extortion, blackmail and criminal intimidation.

He was first arrested on June 22 on suspicion of criminal intimidation and extortion.

The 32-year-old was picked up by police as soon as he allegedly received RM25,000 in “protection money” from a complainant, a 38year-old illegal four-digit operator.

His driver, who possessed expired documentation, was also arrested. He was charged at the Seremban courts with blackmail, as well as employing illegal foreign workers. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

On Aug 12, Sanjeevan was charged with blackmail for allegedly extorting RM1,500 from businessman Chan Leong Kwan by saying that the latter would not be able to run his business if he failed to give the money on July 1, 2013.

Four days later, he was slapped with a third extortion charge for allegedly putting one Mohamad Azhan Hamza in fear of injury in order to commit extortion at Restoran Marakesh in Jalan Raja Uda, Kampung Baru, on

On Aug 25, Sanjeevan claimed trial to charges of cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of a property when he claimed to have degrees from universities in the United Kingdom.

He was said to have deceived company director S. Sivam into believing he had degrees in law and business administration from the UK to persuade the latter to engage him as a consultant.

Two days later, he was charged with making insulting remarks on his Facebook account against Khalid. Sanjeevan was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, with knowingly using a network service application through his Facebook page to create and initiate the transmission of insulting remarks at Khalid with intent to annoy another person’s feeling at 1.48pm on Sept 3 last year.
