Jailed for robbery bid, impersonation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court yesterday sentenced a businessman to two years’ jail for attempted robbery and impersonating a police officer.
Muhammad Al Sufian Abdul Razak, 28, pleaded guilty to attempting to rob badminton coach Tung Kuan King, 19, at the Genting Court Condo parking lot in Setapak at 1.30am on July 15.
He was also sentenced to another 12 months’ jail after he admitted to impersonating a police officer at the same place.
In mitigation, Muhammad, who broke down in court, said he was the sole breadwinner of his family and had his widowed mother, wife and four siblings to support.
Deputy public prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi, in seeking a deterrent sentence, said the sentences should befit the crimes.
Judge Datin Kunasundary Marimuthu ordered both sentences to run concurrently from Muhammad’s date of arrest on July 16.
Meanwhile, in High Court, a technician claimed trial to knowingly supporting terrorists’ ideology, which involved the use of explosives with intent to threaten the Malaysian public.
Mohd Asrol Mohamad, 29, was charged with committing the offence at 76, Jalan Dagang 1/2, Taman Dagang in Ampang, near here, between March 25 and June 29.
He was alleged to have committed the offence through the Telegram app on his Samsung Note II mobile phone.
The offence, under Section 130J (1)b) of the Penal Code, carries a life sentence of not more than 30 years, or a fine or forfeiture of property that were used in the commission of the offence, upon conviction.
