Mum of five missing children lodges report

-

JOHOR BARU: The mother of the five children who ran away from an orphanage here has lodged a report.

Johor Baru Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad said the 45-year-old did not know where the children were and expressed her worries.

“She lodged a report, and she expressed her worry about her missing children,” he said.

Taib said police had gone to two houses — one in Bukit Gambir, Muar, as well as a house in Masai, which was the mother’s last known address.

It is learnt that the woman, identified

as restaurant assistant Pang Lan Cheng, separated from her husband four years ago, and returned to Masai from Butterworth, Penang.

A Bahasa Malaysia tabloid had reported about her in July when her children were taken out of a welfare home in Bukit Tengah, Bukit Mertajam, where the occupants were allegedly abused.

At that time, Pang had claimed she was only aware of her children’s abuse after one of her children had escaped from the home on July 5.

The six children were later placed at the orphanage here.

Taib said police had no clear leads as they continued to search for the five siblings.

It was reported that Yeo Soon Chuan, 17, Soon Shen, 16, Soon Yuan, 13, Soon Hoo, 12, and Soon Lian, 10, went missing at 10.30pm while attending a religious ceremony at Persatuan Penganut Tian Hou Shen Gong in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah.

The five siblings left behind their youngest sibling, an 8-year-old girl, who did not attend the religious ceremony. There are two other children in the family: the eldest sibling is living in Malacca and another sibling is staying with their mother.
