DREAM COME TRUE: Programme has helped me and my wife own a home, says journalist

FREELANCE journalist Muhammad Shahrinnahar Abd Latib’s lifelong dream of owning a home came true when he succeeded in his bid to purchase a low-cost house under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Programme (PR1MA).

He submitted his application last December, and his family will receive the semi-detached house in a housing area near Taman Inderapura Sempurna here by early next year.

The 31-year-old father of two was ecstat- ic, saying he and his 30-year-old wife had bought furniture for their new home.

He said his family was very happy every time they went to look at the house, which was almost complete.

“The house is priced about RM150,000, which is a very good deal compared with similar homes on the market, which are about RM300,000,” he said, adding that his family’s household income was about RM5,000.

“Furthermore, the house is near our workplaces,” said Shahrinnahar, adding that his wife was a secretary at a private company.

He lives in a rented semi-detached house here, while his wife and two children, aged 2 and 3, live in Jengka 7, Jengka.

He said he was grateful to the government for the PR1MA programme as it greatly helped the low-income group own homes.

“The housing area (of my PRIMA home) has a surau, playground, public hall and shoplots.”
