Pupils of another Serian school get aid from Eco World Foundation
SERIAN: Eco World Foundation has expanded its Student Aid Programme (SAP), which has benefited 3,000 school and university students nationwide, to more rural schools in Sarawak.
It was introduced 16 years ago to provide a better education environment for rural children from poor families by aiding them with basic school equipment and necessities.
Eco World Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said SK Sungan here became the latest school in the division to be adopted by the foundation under the programme.
Last month, Lee said the foundation had adopted SK Temong and SK Sejijag, located near SK Sungan, under the programme, which runs on a RM5 million annual allocation.
“Similar to other participants of the programmes, all 45 pupils from Year One until Year Six of SK Sungan will receive education assistance beginning next year.
“The foundation will sponsor workbooks for each subject for all the pupils of the school. We will organise motivational camps and student field trips in addition to the sponsored workbooks,” said Lee, at the school yesterday.
Present were the foundation’s chief executive officer Captain (Rtd) Datuk Liew Siong Sing, its Board of Trustees member Philip Mathews, Serian district education officer Yunos Apok and the school’s headmaster Harry Peter Dago. Mustapa Haji Zen and Vincent Amew Anak Basat, who are the headmasters of SK Temong and SK Sejijag respectively, were also present.
Lee said the foundation wanted to increase the provision of assistance from the initial allocation of RM30,000 per annum to RM40,000 per annum to the schools.
