Hard work pays off for 260 SEGi students

-

GEORGE TOWN: SEGi College Penang held its convocation yesterday for its degree and Master of Business Administration (MBA) students to mark its 20-year tie-up with University of Sunderland.

It was a proud moment for some 260 graduates from six faculties at SEGi’s convocation this year.

On hand to confer the awards was University of Sunderland deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Shirley Atkinson.

SEGi College Penang principal Cheah Teong Keat said the ceremony was a momentous occasion for the students.

“Graduation is a culmination of their hard work over the past two years.

“Their grades have improved by leaps and bounds, with eight distinctions recorded in the MBA category compared with one distinction last year,” he said.

Cheah said SEGi College Penang had been a vibrant university with some 80 activities held, including a heritage run in the inner city, in line with George Town’s Unesco World Heritage Site status.

Top MBA graduate, Jarod Ng Kin Meng, 40, a student representative who gave a speech at the ceremony, credited SEGi’s lecturers and teaching staff for helping him achieve outstanding results.

“The two-year journey at SEGi was sweet. I cherish the strong bonds I fostered with the lecturers and coursemates.

“I enjoyed writing the thesis in general management. It would have been tedious if not for the unwavering guidance of the teaching staff.

“The lecturers are top notch. I have learned to think critically and find solutions for problems from different perspectives,” he said.
