SC names Gumuri Audit Oversight Board chief

KUALA LUMPUR: The Securities Commission (SC) has appointed Datuk Gumuri Hussain as the executive chairman of its Audit Oversight Board (AOB), effective yesterday.

SC said Datuk Gumuri brought along more than 30 years of extensive experience in the audit, accounting and corporate sectors.

He was a senior partner and deputy chairman of governance board of SME Bank chairman and managing director and chief executive officer of Penerbanga­n Malaysia Bhd. He was also formerly a board member of the SC.

SC also made several internal promotions within the leadership team, including the appointmen­t of Zainal Izlan Zainal Abidin as managing director of developmen­t and islamic markets.

General counsel Foo Lee Mei is appointed as chief regulatory officer. SC said Foo would oversee general counsel, corporate governance and consumer and investor office.

Eugene Wong will be managing director of corporate finance and investment and will oversee accounting matters, while Kamarudin Hashim will be executive director of intermedia­ry and fund supervisio­n and will oversee consolidat­ed risk analysis.

The SC also appointed Sharifatul Hanizah Said Ali as the chief executive officer of Securities Industry Developmen­t Corp, the training and developmen­t arm of the SC.
