‘Child still traumatised’

-

SUNGAI PETANI: It is heartbreaking to see the condition of the 4-year-old girl, who has been hospitalised after being abused by her mother’s boyfriend at the Paya Nahu 2 People’s Housing Project flat here.

Kedah Umno Puteri chief Datin Norashimah Md Nowar, after visiting the girl at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital here yesterday afternoon, expressed sadness over the cruelty inflicted on the child.

She said although the victim was in a stable condition, the bruises on her face and feet were visible.

Norashimah said the child, who suffered a fractured right shoulder, was no longer crying like she did when she was admitted to the hospital at 3am on Thursday.

By the time Norashimah arrived at the ward, which is under tight security, the child was asleep. The doctor said she had started communicating with the nurses and doctors and, sometimes, she would call out for her mother.

“I contributed cash aid, on behalf of Kedah Umno Puteri, to the hospital’s management to be handed over to the girl’s relatives.

“We brought two teddy bears to cheer the girl up, who appeared to be traumatised, especially with the presence of older people. The room where the cooler box containing the toddler’s remains were found at the Paya Nahu 2 People’s Housing Project flat in Sungai Petani. Pic by Amran Hamid

“For now, all arrangements concerning the victim are being handled by the state Welfare Department as police are investigating her case.

“At the same time, we (Kedah Umno Puteri ) will keep tabs on her development, as well as provide assistance,” Norashimah said here yesterday.

She said the girl would be under the hospital’s care until the investigations were completed.

Yesterday, police discovered the decomposed body of the girl’s 2year-old brother, wrapped in a blanket and stuffed into a cooler box, in a three-bedroom flat unit where the boyfriend of the siblings’ mother lived.

The body was discovered after police checked the flat unit following a report of a domestic quarrel.

Initial investigations revealed that the boy died on Nov 9.

The mother, 26, and her boyfriend, 34, were remanded for seven days under Sections 302 and 325 of the Penal Code for murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
