Rosmah meets up with UK women’s groups
PUTRAJAYA: The prime minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, yesterday attended a luncheon at Seri Perdana here with 20 United Kingdom delegates from the Asian Women of Achievement and Women of the Future groups.
Present were British High Commissioner to Malaysia Victoria Treadell and Wanita Barisan Nasional chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Also present were Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers members, heads of women wings of BN parties, women entrepreneurs and leaders of women non-governmental organisations.
In her speech, Rosmah said empowered, successful and influential women must coach and mentor young leaders with potential.
She hoped the UK women delegation had an enriching experience from their visit to Malaysia.
Treadell said the UK delegation was on a week-long visit to Malaysia, which began on Monday, to understand the challenges facing women in Malaysia, particularly on politics, social and economic issues.
“The objective of this visit programme is to engage UK women with Malaysian women from all backgrounds, including civil society leaders, business leaders and academia.
“By the time the delegation leaves the country, they will see Malaysia through different lenses, and with a deeper understanding of Malaysia.
“This can generate new thinking, new ideas and new experiences about Malaysia among the delegates,” she said.
At the end of the luncheon, the women held placards calling for an end to violence against women as the date of the gathering coincided with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The Asian Women of Achievement group comprises British women of Asian ancestry who have made significant contributions to society, business and industry.
The Women of the Future group supports and celebrates the successes of British women under 35 and recognises them as emerging leaders. Bernama
